Several of the major cruise lines have announced they will begin dropping the fuel surcharge beginning December 2008 and January 2009. They reserve the right to reinstate the charges should oil prices exceed a certain amount.
All three of the big cruise operators—Carnival Corp., Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and Norwegian Cruise Line—have ended their fuel supplements, which they began instituting earlier this year as response to the then dramatic increase in fuel costs, David Eisen of TravelAgentCentral.com says.
